SON Seizes N5m Worth Of Cables In Kwara, See Why
HSENations reports that the Standards Organisation of Nigeria revealed this through Mrs. Esther Okon, the Kwara State SON Coordinator earlier this week at Ilorin.
The Kwara State SON Coordinator said the seizures of the substandard cables were carried out during market raids in the state’s capital.
HSENations reports that the Kwara State SON Coordinator confirmed that the Director-General of the organisation sanctioned the raid due to the reality that the state, had for long, become a dumpsite for substandard cables.
She maintained that: “Nigeria is being used as a dumping ground for cables from all over the world,” the Kwara State SON Coordinator said.
The Kwara State SON Coordinator stressed that the cables had been sent to the laboratory for analysis.
Okon noted that low-quality cables pose a high risk for consumers, while importation of substandard products as a whole was harmful to the nation’s economy.
The Kwara State SON Coordinator stated that the cables seized failed to meet industrial standards in terms of size and diameter; flame retardant; flexibility; and good conductibility.
“Quite a lot of substandard cables were discovered. The raid was like an eye opener for all of us because we were able to realise that Kwara is being used as a dumping ground even by other states.
“They come in because the raid took place in all other states of the federation, we were among the last one to enforce it and all the ones that were taken out of other states landed in Kwara.
“We allowed them to land safely before we went out to catch up with them,” the Kwara State SON Coordinator added.
The Kwara State SON Coordinator advised traders to always sell only standard products.
