The Disaster Recovery Institute of Nigeria (DRI), is set to give professionals across all disciplines in Nigeria an opportunity to learn and profit from her highly rated Business  Continuity Management (BCM) Training.
According to a statement by the institutes,  the BCM programme is no doubt a strategic course to be embraced by every professional who wants to be relevant either as an employer or employee in the future of work.
The goal of BCM it said is to provide an organization with the ability to effectively respond to threats such as natural disasters or data breaches and protect the business interests of the organization. BCM includes disaster recovery, business recovery, crisis management, incident management, emergency management and contingency planning.
The statement further said the course will open the eyes of participants to the concept of business continuity which is a holistic management process that identifies potential threats to an organization’s existence and the impact to business operations.
“Those threats, if realized, might cause, and which provides a framework for building organizational resilience with the capability of an effective response that safeguards the interests of its key stakeholders, reputation, brand and value-creating activities.”
Attesting to the impact of the BCM course, Health and Safety Manager of EMTS Ltd, Victor Esenowo, said: “I took the Business Continuity Management course recently even though I have been doing BCM as part of my job for about 25 years but never did the formal training. I basically worked through the hard way. Doing the course with DRI Nigeria has broadened my understanding on the concepts behind the things I did and how to also do better. It was worth it”.
As an HSE professional, some organisations have started involving health and safety professionals in BCM programs. Doing the course will give participants an advantage in getting ready for the opportunity. We must understand that Health and safety stops when disaster strikes but BCM kicks in when disaster has struck and a different set of procedures will be required to activate the BCM which HSE doesn’t have. I hope this helps you in making a decision. Besides get on the boat before it gets crowded. BCM is catching on in Nigeria and it’s a matter of times.”
Another safety professional, Julius Akpong, HSE, Manager, Cummings Energy Solutions said the course for him became an eye opener having been exposed to what corporate sustainability management is.
” Taking the BCM with DRI gives plenty of essence to hazard identification and risk assessments as well as provide the meeting point between contingency planning and business sustainability. Try it and you would feel your professional eyes open wide. Truth is, while you are fighting the fire or other emergency, how can the business be sustained during this time? What are the recovery time and recovery point objectives and the business impact analysis? I encourage you to think like your CEO, so that you can easily understand each other. I encourage you to enroll for BCLE 2000. Add it to 2020 plan.
The Competitive advantage for participants is that they can become consultants in business continuity planning as well as begin to reason like business owners which helps them enlist management support for health and safety.” He enthused.
In his reaction, Brand, Media and Communications Manager of African Alliance Bankole Banjo said: the course helps think long-term as far as business continuity is concerned. It also puts the professional in a position that helps him decipher issues before they happen, address same as they happen and look out for the overall sustenance of the business come what may
