The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been nominated alongside some top African leaders by Health, Environment and Safety (HSE) Professionals / Practitioners for the Africa Safety Award For Excellence (AfriSAFE) 2020 ICON of the year.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of AfriSAFE Board of Governors, Rear Admiral Sunny Olukoya (rtd), who said the government leaders were nominated for being proactive in Africa’s quest for survival at the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Femi Da-Silva, Chief Coordinator of AfriSAFE, also addressed that the nominated individuals are people who were identified to have displayed a high standard of leadership and were able to implement strategies that helped to reduce the negative impact of the virus.
“The ICON of the Year Award Category is one of AfriSAFE’s award categories, dedicated to recognizing Government Leaders with the best response to the COVID-19 pandemic”.
“Shortlisted Leaders will be recognized for their exemplary leadership and coordination that helped mitigate the impact of COVID-19 in Africa when final verdicts are passed after a transparent judging process that will be conducted by a team of Judges comprising of 5 international safety experts”, he said.
Admiral Olukoya noted that AfriSAFE received over 1,200 entries from safety professionals/practitioners across four African Region. He added that the entries were meritoriously scrutinized before coming up with a shortlist of formidable contenders.
Other individuals who have been shortlisted for other categories of the award include Huub Stokman, CEO, OVH Energy; Deepanjan Roy, CEO, Chi Limited; Festus Olaoye, CEO Beam Energy Limited; Paul Harriman, CEO, Egbin Power; Jude Abalaka, CEO, Tranos; David John Townsend, CEO, Palmers Green International Ltd ; Ufuoma Imonioro, CEO Aviam Offshore Engineering Co. Ltd; Mrs Olatokunbo A. Fagbemi, CEO, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company PLC among others.
The AfriSAFE 2020 will also honour any young individual with the best innovation with money in US Dollars as cash prize and professional HSE courses as knowledge investment to support the innovation.
Among those nominated for the Young categories include Mater Ecclesiae College Students; Isaac Success (Dream from the Slum initiatives); Akingbola Adewunmi, (Health Drive Nigeria); Tolani Odukoya, (The Mindset Africa); Akhere Akran (Agatha Obiageli Aghedo Memorial Foundation); Ugochi Obidiegwu (The Safety Chic), Marvelous Miracle (MHM Organization) among others.
In the same vein, Anthil Productions; the luxurious brand, Tiffany Amber; Slum to School; 7up Bottling Company; Airtel Nigeria; De United Foods Industries Limited (Dufil); GOLDEN SWAN, Equatorial Guinea; The Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu, Kenya; Vedanta International, South Africa; Ikeja Electric Plc are among the organizations nominated in the different award categories.
AfriSAFE 2020 award will hold online via a dedicated Zoom Channel, and other various Social Media platforms and broadcasted on cable network on Sunday, November 8, 2020.
