Safety career is not gender-based. It is not for particular sex and age isn’t even a point. The Society of Women in Safety, Health and Environment – Africa (SOWSHE-A) exist to break myths that assume otherwise.
Unlike other continents of the world, Africa is just experiencing a strong wave of advocacy for safety. So, Africans are coming fast to the light of the career opportunities that exist in an industry called the “Safety Industry”.
SOWSHE-A as a non-profit organization has been able to help both aspiring and female safety professional to realize that they can build a formidable career in Safety, Health and Environment and are serving as a stepping stone for their successes, by making their organization as one that empowers and develops.
Founded by a council member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), Funmi Adegbola, SOWSHE-A is built on the solid experience of her Executive Board Members, who are all African females and professionals representing a sundry cross-section of the occupational safety, health and environment profession.
SOWSHE-A since the time of its existence and through the various kind of mentorship access it gives to its members is building a strong community of female safety professionals, who are growing together, learning ways to ensure workplace safety.
Society of Women in Safety, Health and Environment – Africa (SOWSHE-A) is also contributing to the boost in the relevance and recognition of the safety industry; it helped to set and reset high standards for her member, subsequently, every landmark that they achieve add up as win for the whole safety industry.
The body is resolute to be at the frontline, championing advocacy, connecting people and organisations, providing practical education, training, advice and resources and partnership with brands like Africa Safety Award For Excellence (AfriSAFE).
SOWSHE- A is a co-sponsor of the AfriSAFE price for innovation given to any young individual with unique initiatives to support their innovation.
