A Punch report claimed the incident happened yesterday in Lagos State.

In the report, the Police Spokesperson in the State, SP Bala Elkana claimed that the incident was caused by a mechanical fault the boat developed while on the sea.

In his words, he said, “Five persons [were] rescued while 10 corpses had been recovered. Three persons are still missing. There were 18 people on board.”

“The boat engine failed on the sea and there were strong waves which resulted in the accident. The boat left Kirikiri for Badagry”.

However, authorities of LASEMA and the Lagos State Waterways Authority have allegedly not confirmed the casualty figure with a senior emergency official stating in anonymity to Punch that the situation is managed to avert panic.
