Day 1: A Grand Kickoff in Mombasa as AfriSAFE 2025 Begins Today

The much-anticipated Africa Safety Awards for Excellence (AfriSAFE) 2025 officially kicks off today, Thursday, November 13, in Mombasa, Kenya, with the Africa Safety Congress a full-day event dedicated to conversations around workplace safety, innovation, and sustainable development.

Day 1 of AfriSAFE 2025 will feature a blend of thought-provoking discussions, performances, and networking experiences, drawing leaders, professionals, and policymakers from across the continent. The theme for this year’s congress, “United for a Safer Africa: Building Strategic Alliances and Leveraging Technology for Sustainable Development, sets the tone for a transformative dialogue on the future of occupational safety and health (OSH) in Africa.

The day will begin with an opening session from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m., featuring registration, a welcome reception, and a Safety Corner. Attendees will also enjoy an inspiring safetainment segment titled “Cinematic Tales: Invisible Scars” a creative performance highlighting the human side of workplace safety. The session will include goodwill messages and an opening speech from a key sponsor before the official keynote address.

From 10:30 a.m., the congress will transition into its first panel discussion, “The Sustainable Safety Advantage: Leadership, ESG, and Enhanced Business Performance.” Industry experts will explore how sustainability, good governance, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices can drive safer workplaces and stronger business outcomes.

The second panel, scheduled for 11:30 a.m., will focus on “Advancing OSH in Africa: The Role of Robust Policy, Governance, and Technology Uptake.” This session aims to address the policy frameworks and digital tools shaping safety standards across industries.

Following a lunch and exhibition break from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., discussions will continue with “Innovative Strategies for Safer Workplaces and Communities,” examining how technology, infrastructure, and crisis response systems can transform Africa’s safety landscape.

The afternoon will include tea breaks, networking sessions, and another screening of “Cinematic Tales: Invisible Scars 2.”

The day will close with the Tourism, Networking & Entertainment Under the Stars experience a Sunset Cruise and Tamarind Dhow Delight, offering participants two to three hours of laughter, relaxation, and meaningful connections against the scenic backdrop of Mombasa’s coast.

With a rich blend of knowledge-sharing, cultural performances, and networking opportunities, Day 1 of AfriSAFE 2025 promises to set a strong foundation for a safer and more sustainable Africa.
