Lusaka, Zambia – AfriSAFE, Africa’s premier occupational safety and health event, is proud to announce a groundbreaking initiative to train at least 600 artisans in Lusaka, Zambia, in critical first aid, emergency response techniques, and mental health awareness.
In collaboration with SMTS Zambia and Kazi Global Resources Ltd, this innovative program aims to bridge the significant safety gap between the formal and informal sectors in Zambia and across Africa. By targeting blue-collar workers including teachers and care givers, who are often the first responders in accident situations, AfriSAFE seeks to empower a critical segment of the workforce with the skills to respond effectively in emergency situations, reducing the risk of accidents, injuries, and fatalities.
The practical training program, scheduled for October 22 at the Government Complex, Lusaka, will equip beneficiaries with essential skills in:
- Responding to health emergencies
- Surveying scenes and accident victims
- Basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Basic first aid intervention
- Dealing with mental health issues
According to Femi Da-silva, CEO of AfriSAFE, “This training has the potential to make a significant impact on the nation’s safety landscape. By empowering artisans with life-saving skills, we can reduce the burden on our healthcare system and promote a culture of safety that benefits everyone.”

As the largest and most prestigious event promoting excellence in occupational safety and health in Africa, AfriSAFE’s influence extends to over 24 countries across the continent. This initiative demonstrates the organization’s commitment to driving positive change and promoting a safer, healthier Africa.
The training is part of the activities lined up for the 6th AfriSAFE Congress and Award, with Zambia Sugar as headlined sponsor and also endorsed by Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Ministry of Tourism and the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). This paid conference is scheduled to take place on November 7&8, 2024, in Livingstone.
