In a tragic incident , a former hotel converted into residential apartments adjacent to the Cupid Hotel on Cupid Road (Sultan Dasuki Way) in Kubwa, Abuja, partially collapsed early Saturday morning.
The building, originally known as the Al-Hilal Hotel and later repurposed as residential units after serving as a hospital, trapped multiple residents under rubble.
Emergency responders and security personnel swiftly arrived at the scene around 6:30 am, but initial rescue efforts were hampered by a shortage of necessary equipment, delaying the extraction of trapped individuals. As of 8:45 am, crucial cranes needed to lift heavy debris had not yet arrived, further complicating the rescue operation.
Despite these challenges, two individuals were successfully rescued and transported to a nearby medical facility, while others managed to escape on their own.
Witness Account:
An anonymous escapee reported hearing cracking sounds around 7 am, prompting a swift exit from the building.
Connection to Recent Tragedy:
This incident follows shortly after the collapse of Saints Academy in Jos, where 22 lives were lost and 132 individuals sustained injuries during a third-term examination.
