The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Nigeria Chapter has strengthened its commitment to building competent safety professionals and promoting a safer Nigeria through a two day strategic engagement with key organisations in Warri, Delta State.
The engagement, held on August 20 and 21, 2026, focused on strengthening professional relationships, advancing safety capacity building and creating strategic partnerships across Nigeria’s energy, training and maritime sectors.
The chapter visited Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited, the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Warri, and the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta as part of its year vision of building competent safety professionals and contributing to a safer Nigeria.
The first engagement took place on August 20 at Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited, where the ASSP Nigeria Chapter paid a courtesy visit to the company’s leadership.
Discussions focused on areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening health, safety and environment culture, improving safety capacity and promoting industry best practices.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both organisations to explore ways professional safety expertise could support stronger safety standards and practices within the industry.
Chapter Explores Safety Training Partnership With PTI
On August 21, the chapter visited the Petroleum Training Institute in Warri for a strategic engagement with the institution’s Principal and Chief Executive.
The discussions centred on potential partnerships in professional safety training and certification, with particular attention to developing the next generation of competent and grounded safety professionals for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
The chapter emphasised the importance of connecting professional safety practice with petroleum education to create a strong pipeline of professionals equipped to meet the evolving safety demands of the energy sector.
The engagement also reinforced ASSP Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening safety leadership through collaboration with leading training institutions.
The chapter also paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Navy Ship Delta on August 21, where it engaged the command on opportunities to strengthen collaboration between professional safety practice, maritime security and national resilience.
The engagement highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in promoting safer and more secure operational environments.
According to the chapter, meaningful collaboration requires a shared purpose, collective responsibility and a commitment to protecting lives across industries and operational environments.
