Plateau Govt Issues Urgent Appeal for Blood Donations Following School Building Collapse in Jos

In the aftermath of the tragic collapse of Saints Academy in Jos during an examination session, the Plateau State Government has issued a heartfelt plea for blood donations to support the victims. The incident, which resulted in numerous student injuries, has created an urgent demand for medical supplies, particularly blood.

Musa Ashom, the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, conveyed the urgent appeal through a statement on Friday evening. He emphasized the critical need for blood donations amidst the scale of the tragedy and the high number of injured individuals requiring immediate medical attention.

The appeal has been widely broadcasted across state-owned radio and television stations, urging all capable individuals to contribute to the life-saving efforts.

“At this critical time, given the magnitude of the tragedy and the number of casualties, there is an urgent need for blood to aid in the treatment of the victims,” Commissioner Ashom stressed.

The Plateau Specialists Hospital has been designated as the central hub for the blood donation campaign, where many of the injured are currently undergoing treatment.

“As a result of the devastating collapse of the school building in the Busa Buji area of Jos North Local Government Area, we appeal to the public’s sense of compassion to donate blood at major government hospitals in the city,” the statement read.

The emergency response efforts, led by agencies including NEMA, SEMA, FRSC, and Federal and state fire services, are ongoing at the site of the collapsed building.
