Child Safety Advocate Flags Off Campaign In Schools

The growing number of assaults and accident in schools is becoming worrisome for parents and teachers, thereby threatening the safe and secure atmosphere required in places of formal education for an effective teaching and learning process.

In raising awareness about this threat, a child safety organisation, Kiddiesdom flagged off its annual campaign last weekend to bridge the gap observed in child safety deficiency.

The Programme, tagged “Demanding/Creating Safe Schools” is a child- safety awareness programme aimed at educating parents and child-care providers on child safety issues so as to ensure children are free from avoidable harm and injury.

While speaking to HSENations, Ifechukwu Enweani, the convener of the programme, said, that it is expected that parents, school owners and teachers must be abreast of safety standards expected of schools so that children can always return home safe.

In her words, “It is the duty of every child-care provider to optimally care for a child in their custody. However, it is parents that should be the core guardians of a child and should be held responsible regardless.”

Enweani emphasized that safety conscious schools must make intentional efforts to make the learning environment free of hazards and should also provide response measures for potential emergency scenarios.

The program also welcomed questions from parents and educators on how they could prevent and respond to child abuse, especially in the school system.

The highpoint of the event is the first aid training provided fo all participants.
