The IOSH’s 75th anniversary scheduled to hold tomorrow, April 21st, has been postponed, to be celebrated in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A press statement obtained by HSENations reads thus;
“The COVID-19 outbreak has, of course, forced many of us to reprioritize, and IOSH is now focused entirely on supporting the occupational safety and health profession including our members, employers, strategic partners globally and our network of training partners in their response to the unprecedented challenges presented by Covid-19”.
“IOSH is providing leadership and support to our members, who are working harder than ever to ensure key workers and those working remotely remain safe and healthy during the pandemic”.
“Many organizations we work with face financial and operational difficulties because of the lockdown and we’re introducing new and flexible ways to help them. And we’re providing free and authoritative guidance to help those businesses without direct access currently to professional advice”.
“The investment in our systems and technology mean that we’re able to continue operating and we’re now, in tandem with our networks of volunteers and strategic partners, working flat-out to provide support and guidance to our many stakeholders, who more than ever need a competent safety and health profession led by a strong professional body”.
“This will continue to be our main priority throughout all phases of the pandemic as it spreads across the globe, from initial impact to recovery”.
“So, we‘ll hold off for now with our plans to celebrate and tell the story of the global safety and health profession. But when we do so next April, we’ll be sure to celebrate the many successes of members and partners who rose to the challenge of a global pandemic – and explore the many lessons we have all learned”.
“We had much to celebrate this year but in 2021 we will herald a global profession and Institution that also overcame their greatest challenge and emerged stronger, more united than ever and able to continue shaping a safer, healthier, better world of work”.
