Driver Missing As Vehicle Plungs Into Ogun River

An un-identified driver has been declared missing after the vehicle he was driving plunged into Osasa River on the Sagamu-Benin expressway on Saturday.

Mr. Clement Oladele, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident in Abeokuta on Sunday.

According to him, the incident occurred on Saturday, at about 6.15 pm. Oladele stated that the FRSC rescue team moved swiftly to the scene to carry out rescue operations once notified.

While the identity of the missing driver is still unknown, he has however been confirmed to be a non- academic staff of Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE), Ijebu-Ode and the lone occupant of the vehicle.

“Remember that the FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, recently recruited some professional divers for the FRSC, and some were posted to Ijebu-Ode.

“They participated in the rescue operations by diving into the river to search for the driver and the vehicle.

“As at this (Sunday) evening, the ill-fated vehicle, a black Honda Civic car, with registration number EPE 892 CV, had been recovered,” he said.

He advised the RCC, the construction company overseeing the rehabilitation of Sagamu- Ijebu-Ode- Benin expressway, to ensure that the safety railings around the bridges in that area are replaced before the completion of work on the project.

Oladele ended by saying that the rescue operation will go on until the driver’s body is recovered from the river.
