The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has cautioned drivers against speeding during the rainy season due to poor visibility.

The FRSC Sector Commander in Enugu, Mr Ogbonnaya Kalu, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.

Kalu, who spoke on the sidelines of an event organised by the corps to sensitise residents and drivers on obstacles to driving during rainy season, noted that “the season comes with downpours and gloomy conditions that will blur the vision of drivers.

According to him, it is advisable to be on the right side of caution by reducing speed due to poor visibility.

“Most times, the break system take a while to hold because the tyres are wet after a rain.”

The sector commander urged motorists to ensure that their screen wipers and lighting system were functional.

He said “during the rainy season and always, all the lights are necessary for effective communication due to poor visibility.

“Your headlamps, trafficators, break-lights and parking lights should be functional.

“The breaking system should be fixed and you use good tyres for you to have a good grab when you apply the break this season.

“A bad break system and worn-out tyres will likely result to a vehicle having accident this season.”

Kalu called on drivers to adopt defensive driving technique and maintain lane discipline.
