George Floyd Death: Truths and Facts Researched and Compiled By: Engr Timothy Iwuagwu FISP

……… George Floyd Died Of Asphyxiation

George Floyd’s relatives are demanding further punishment for those involved in his death after an independent autopsy requested by the family concluded he was killed by asphyxiation from sustained pressure.

WHAT IS ASPHYXIATION?

The state or process of being deprived of oxygen, which can result in unconsciousness or death; suffocation.

“the cause of death was asphyxiation”

CAUSES OF ASPHYXIATION

The asphyxia can be caused by facial compression, neck compression, or chest compression.

This occurs mostly during restraint and handcuffing situations by law enforcement, including psychiatric incidents.

The weight of the restraint(s) doing the compression may contribute to what is attributed to positional asphyxia.

SIGNS OF ASPHYXIATION

Without oxygen, cell death can occur in 2-4 minutes.

Symptoms of asphyxia might include difficulty breathing, inability to breathe, developing a blueish tint to the skin, irregular heart rate, weakness, and seizures. Long-term results of asphyxia include coma and death.

IS ASPHYXIATION THE SAME AS STRANGULATION?

Asphyxiation is completely different because it is only defined by the deprivation of gaseous tracheal oxygen.

It is possible to strangle and asphyxiate at the same time but they are not the same process.

A “chokehold” is a misnomer because it most often results in strangulation instead of choking.

IS DEATH BY LACK OF OXYGEN PAINFUL?

What happens to the body during
There’s only one good thing to be said for hypoxia. It probably doesn’t hurt as much as the many other ways in which committing aviation can kill you. … Hypoxia is a seductive way to die. ‘One does not suffer in any way; on the contrary, (Aug 8, 2014).

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE BODY DURING ASPHYXIATION?

Asphyxia happens when your body doesn’t get enough oxygen to keep you from passing out. … Your lungs send that oxygen into your blood, which carries it to your tissues. Then your cells use it to make energy.(Aug 15, 2019)

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LOSE CONSCIOUSNESS?

If you cut off the blood supply to the brain directly by applying pressure to the carotid artery (traditionally called a “choke hold” in Judo), they lose consciousness in 2-3 seconds. After loss of consciousness, with the air supply cut off, it takes 5-6 minutes for brain death under normal circumstances.(May 25, 2016)

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO DIE OF LACK OF OXYGEN?

Between 30-180 seconds of oxygen deprivation, you may lose consciousness.(Jun 13, 2016)

WHAT DOES ASPHYXIATION FEEL LIKE?

When you rob your brain of oxygen (asphyxia), you experience a high — euphoria, dizziness, and lowered inhibition — before you lose consciousness.

IS SELF STRANGULATION POSSIBLE?

Self-strangulation is a very uncommon method of suicide.

Deaths by vehicle-assisted ligature are rarely published and mainly related to decapitation.

We report an unusual case of self-strangulation where a body was found dead inside a car with a rope round his neck and tied to a bridge banister.

HOW CAN YOU PREVENT ASPHYXIATION?

How to prevent asphyxiation in confined spaces

Purge the confined space before entry.

Before workers are allowed to enter a confined space, it should be purged of all sludge and other deposits that can prove hazardous. …

Check entrance size. …

Ensure adequate ventilation. …

Test the air.

How To Avoid Asphyxiation Due To Hazard In Pits

Construction workers are exposed to some of the most dangerous health hazards. This includes dangers that come with working in confined spaces one of which is asphyxiation.

Under normal conditions, we can breathe air that is made up of at least 20.9% of oxygen. When that amount drops by even 1%, breathing is a challenge. Overweight or muscular individuals may have more difficulty breathing under such conditions and can get disoriented faster.

When the oxygen level drops to less than

DOES SUFFOCATION Show Up IN AUTOPSY?

In most instances, autopsy findings will be minimal. Nonspecific findings may include indentations or ‘pressure marks’ on the skin related to bedding or clothing. Because the autopsy is usually negative, it is difficult to sort out overlayings from other forms of suffocation (including intentional suffocation) or SIDS. (Jan 14, 2009)

What’s the difference between “asphyxiation” and “suffocation”? Asphyxiation can occur when a substance, such as carbon dioxide, interferes with the oxygenation of tissue. Suffocation can occur when the air supply to the body is blocked from entering the body. Unfortunately, the results can be the same – death.

WHAT IS ASPHYXIA STRANGULATION ?

About strangulation and hanging: Language matters. … Strangulation is defined asphyxia by closure of the blood vessels and/ or air passages of the neck as a result of external pressure on the neck.
