Governor Sanwo-Olu and Minister of Interior to Headline Inaugural Lagos International Fire Safety Conference

The Lagos State Government is set to host the first Lagos International Fire Safety Conference, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, leading a distinguished lineup of speakers.

This groundbreaking event, organized by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, will take place from June 25 to 27 at the Federal Palace Hotel & Casino, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The conference aims to bring together key stakeholders from both governmental and private sectors to collaborate on strategies to mitigate fire disasters and reduce their devastating effects on the lives and properties of Lagosians. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops, seminars, and exhibitions, all focusing on the latest advancements in fire safety technology, best practices, and regulatory standards.

Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, emphasised the importance of this event in her statement on Friday. “This conference is a crucial platform for us to brainstorm and develop effective strategies to combat fire disasters,” Adeseye said. “It is an opportunity to share knowledge and experiences that can help save lives and protect property.”

A major highlight of the three-day event will be the CEO roundtable, which promises to be an engaging forum for high-level discussions on fire safety challenges and innovations. The conference will feature a retinue of highly experienced speakers from Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and the United States, ensuring a diverse and comprehensive perspective on fire safety management.

Expected speakers include: Former Controller General, Federal Fire Service, Dr. Ibrahim Liman; Programme Leader, MSc Disaster Management, Executive Business Centre, Bournemouth University, UK, Christopher Baker-Beall; Deputy Assistant Chief of Training, New York Fire Department, USA, Jon Watson; President of Vulcan Society (Association of Black Firefighters) New York, USA, Regina Wilson; President, International Association of Emergency Managers, Africa, Dr Susan Agada; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth, Anambra State, Engr. Dr. Martins Agbili; Managing Director, Asset Bow Nigeria Limited, Mr. Virgil Onyeka; and MD/CEO Surveillant Fire, Engr. Jumade Adejola.
