The President of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Nigeria Chapter, Mrs Mercy Omoifo-Irefo has told the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to increase their effort towards promoting safety culture within its organization and among related stakeholders.

She said this during the courtesy visit ASSP leadership paid the new Executive Director, Marine and Operations, Nigerian Ports Authority, Hon. Onari Brown at his office in Lagos on the 16th of September, 2020.
According to Mercy, NPA, an organization whose areas of operations are mainly in waterways and channels, has contributed immensely to the promotion of safety culture. She lauded them for being at the forefront of the bid to promote workplace safety.
She, however, told the Executive Director that his organization has more to do to achieve the desired level of safety in the workplace.

The president urged the top management personnel of the Federal parastatal to partner with America Society of Safety Professionals Nigeria Chapter to promote safe operations. Mercy opined that a partnership with ASSP will help the organization avert avoidable workplace accidents.
In his response, the new Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority, Hon. Onari Brown thanked the President and visiting members of the association.
While accepting to always support and collaborate with ASSP, he asked the Health Safety and Environmental Manager of the parastatal to come up with programs that will help their members to have the awareness of safety culture and be conscious of it.
In the same vein, the ASSP leadership celebrated and acknowledged Mr Umar Abubakar Garba, General Manager, Tariff and Billing of NPA, for his creative leadership and high sense of commitment to occupational health and safety issues, presenting a plaque to him.
