NAMA Set To Train 80 Air Traffic Safety Personnel

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has disclosed that it would train 80 of its Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEP) at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria in Kaduna State.

According to the agency, the training is to enhance its manpower capability.

This much was revealed to newsmen by the Director of Safety Electronics and Engineering Services, NAMA, Mr. Ahmad Umar Faruk, in Abuja, during the 9th African Regional Conference.

“As I speak we have programmed 80 personnel to be trained at NCAT Zaria this year alone, the first batch of 20 personnel are already in Zaria.

“I urge other Civil Aviation Authorities (CAAs) in Africa to follow the example of Nigeria by providing and facilitating the speedy training and licensing of ATSEPs in their respective countries,” Faruk said.

He added that ATSEPs that lack requisite training will end up jeopardizing the system, while adequate training would serve to aid air traffic safety in the country.

He emphasised the need for the aviation industry to be up to date with modern knowledge in order to curb air hazards.
