President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the establishment of a high-powered committee to investigate the recurrent tanker explosions across Nigeria and implement sweeping safety measures aimed at preventing future tragedies. This decision, announced by the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, comes in the wake of the recent tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.
The devastating explosion claimed the lives of 86 individuals, leaving 55 others injured. Victims were rushed to hospitals in Suleja for treatment, while the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Nentawe Yilwatda, led a delegation to inspect the explosion site and commiserate with affected families.

Minister Idris revealed that the committee will include representatives from key sectors, including the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), and tanker drivers’ associations, among others. - January 2025: A tanker explosion in Agbor, Delta State, killed five people after the tanker lost control and burst into flames.
