The Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE), Lagos Chapter, successfully held its 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Induction Ceremony on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at His Dulce Restaurant, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event, themed “Sustainable Engineering Practices for Reducing Carbon Footprint,” underscored the pivotal role of engineers in addressing environmental sustainability challenges. Notable attendees included the National Chairman, Engr. Seun Faluyi, and other industry leaders.
A panel discussion, moderated by Orume Oghenejode( the Vice Chairman NiSafetyELagosChapter, featured expert insights from Engr. Seun Faluyi(National Chairman, NiSafetyE), Engr. Dr. Omotola Adetona (National Financial Secretary NiSafetyE), and Engr. Solima Mac-Jaja(Chairman NiSafetyE Lagos Chapter).
Discussions covered emerging technologies, local innovations, and regulatory roles in reducing Nigeria’s carbon footprint.

- Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS): Projects like Chevron’s Escravos Gas Reinjection significantly cut CO₂ emissions.
- Renewable Energy Adoption: Companies like Rubitec Solar are providing solar mini-grids to reduce reliance on diesel generators.
- Smart Grid Development: Supported by the African Development Bank, Nigeria’s grid efficiency is improving.
- Waste-to-Energy Initiatives: Programs like LAWMA’s organic waste biogas conversion provide sustainable waste management solutions.
- Regulatory Frameworks: The Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) aims to curb gas flaring, with companies like Seplat Energy leading compliance efforts.
The event also recognized industry contributions with awards presented to CWAY, Oandae Brothers Limited, Kevron Consulting Limited, and other organizations for their impact on safety advocacy and engineering excellence. The Kevron/NISafetyE Scholarship Award was presented to deserving students, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to safety engineering education.
