As the countdown to Africa Safety Congress/ AfriSAFE 2023 continues, we are delighted to announce the confirmed attendance of three other eminent personalities who have confirmed physical attendance at one of Africa’s biggest and most prestigious OSH event:

Mr. Oswald Magwenzi is the Country Managing Director (CMD) of Zambia Sugar, an Illovo Sugar Africa Group, Africa’s leading multinational sugar producer which operates in seven countries in Southern and East Africa. He is a seasoned Agribusiness Executive with 30 years of experience in the sugar, irrigation and international finance sectors. Having initially joined Illovo in 2003, he briefly left the Illovo Group after six years to join the World Bank Group where he worked for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in the Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services cluster, responsible for agribusiness investments in East and Southern Africa based in Nairobi. He returned to Illovo in 2012 and in 2013 was appointed Country Managing Director of the Eswatini subsidiary, Ubombo Sugar Africa, a position he held for over 8 years.

Dr. Vanessa Phala, a South African national, currently holds the prestigious position of Country Director for the International Labour Organisation (ILO), overseeing Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and acting as the Liaison Office for ECOWAS.

Her prior role as a Senior Specialist in Employers’ Activities at the ILO Office for the Caribbean in Port of Spain spanned 13 Caribbean countries and nine metropolitan territories. Dr. Phala’s distinguished career also includes key leadership roles within the public and private sectors from 2004 to 2016.

Notably, she served as the Executive Director of Social and Transformation Policy at Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), representing organized business interests in South Africa. Dr. Phala’s extensive experience underscores her pivotal role in labor and employment.

Ms. Nachilala Nkombo, an esteemed and award-winning figure in the field of African sustainability and innovation, boasting an impressive career spanning over two decades on the international stage. Presently, she holds the esteemed position of Country Director for the World-Wide Fund for Nature Zambia, where she spearheads a comprehensive mission focused on promoting sustainable development and the preservation of biodiversity.

Nachilala’s exceptional leadership is evident in her ability to orchestrate collaborations between policymakers, business leaders, and community influencers, all in pursuit of driving national sustainable development policy initiatives and pioneering innovations in the realm of the green economy. Her commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable practices underscores her pivotal role in advancing the sustainability agenda in Africa.

This prestigious event will bring together over 600 onsite delegates, along with 10,000+ online attendees, making it a landmark gathering of safety professionals, experts, and enthusiasts.

The Africa Safety Congress and AfriSAFE Award 2023 is a pivotal gathering of safety practitioners, experts, and enthusiasts. The event will bring together over 600 onsite delegates and over 10,000 online attendees, providing a unique platform for meaningful discussions and insights.

The agenda includes a career/empowerment fair, exhibition, and engaging sessions on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in Africa.
