In its bid to strengthen the awareness rate and to facilitate preventive measures of the Covid-19 outbreak in Akwa Ibom State, Association for Health,  Safety and Environmental Awareness International, A-HSEAI, organized a sensitization program to further enlighten the public about the ills of the pandemic and how to practice effective safety in their homes and communities.
  
The program was organized to sensitize secondary school pupils in Ikot Ekpene and Uyo Senatorial Districts of the State, on how to practice safety during and after the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Subjects that were discussed during the programme are as follows: Hazard and Risks Identification and Control, Road Safety and use of seat belt, Fire Fighting and practicals on the operation of fire extinguisher, Unsafe Act and Unsafe Condition, Incidents and Accidents / Emergency Response, Lassa Fever, Corona Virus, Dangers of Drug Abuse, Practical Demonstration on basic First Aids including the arrest of hemorrhage, choking, foreign body in the eyes, nose bleeding, fainting attack and basic knowledge about CPR were discussed.
On the sidelines of the event, the president of A-HSEAI, Edidiong Ekanem, presented Fire Extinguishers, First Aid boxes to each school, the group also donated Health and Safety Handbook to students as a way to enhance their knowledge.
The event became an amazing success story, as the school children showed excitement and enthusiasm to the whole exercise as they asked challenging questions that were answered professionally.
On her part,  the Head Teacher of Model Community Secondary School, Mrs. Excel Favour thanked the association for embarking on sensitization on secondary schools which is the larger proportion in the state and urged teachers to disseminate the information from the awareness campaign to other students in order to curtail the spread of the disease.
In her contribution, the representative for the Commissioner, Ministry of Environment and Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Ini-Favour Umoh lauded the association for the choice of targeting both public and private schools in the State which will help train both teachers and pupils about the symptoms and ways to prevent it.
