Lagos International Fire Safety Conference 1.0: Igniting Collaborative Solutions for Incessant Fire Disasters

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is set to host the inaugural Lagos International Fire Safety Conference 1.0 in collaboration with strategic partners.

With the theme “Stakeholders Collaboration: A Panacea to Incessant Fire Disasters in Lagos,” the conference aims to address the challenges surrounding fire outbreaks in the state.

Scheduled from Tuesday, June 25th to Thursday, June 27th, 2024, at the prestigious Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria, the event promises to be enlightening and impactful.

In recent years, Lagos has witnessed an alarming increase in fire incidents, resulting in significant loss of lives and property.

The statistics are staggering, with distress calls soaring and billions of naira worth of property lost to fire-related emergencies.

In 2021, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received 1,195 distress calls, recovered 76 dead and N11.95 billion worth of estimated property lost to Fire and related incidents.

By 2023, distress calls received rose to 2,537, with 82 casualties and N25.37 billion worth of estimated property lost with attendant environmental effects.

Recognizing the urgent need for collaborative action, the Lagos State Government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is taking proactive steps to address this pressing issue.

The conference will feature workshops, seminars, panel discussions, networking sessions, and an expo, providing a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, share best practices, and explore innovative solutions.

Notably, the conference will be inaugurated by Governor Sanwo-Olu himself, underlining the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of Lagosians.

Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, emphasized that the conference is not merely a forum for discussion but a catalyst for tangible action.

She assured attendees that the government would implement policies and recommendations arising from the conference to enhance fire safety measures across the state.

Commissioner’s Address: Prioritizing Fire Safety in Lagos.

In line with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Agenda, the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations is spearheading efforts to address fire safety concerns in Lagos.

Commissioner for Special Duties & Intergovernmental Relations, Hon. Olugbenga Oyerinde, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prevention and mitigation strategies.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration among government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and the community to tackle fire emergencies effectively.

The three-day conference will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and the showcasing of cutting-edge technologies in fire safety.

Attendees can expect insightful discussions, practical workshops, and networking opportunities with industry leaders and experts.
