2023 Congress: Zambia Sugar MD Oswald Magwenzi Clinches Iconic Man of the Year at AfriSAFE Gala

Oswald Magwenzi, the Managing Director of Zambia Sugar, was honored with the Iconic Man of the Year award during the Africa Safety Award for Excellence (AfriSAFE) gala in Lagos on 10th November 2023.

During the event held on Friday, Mr. Femi Da-silva, CEO of HSENAtions, highlighted Magwenzi’s exceptional leadership since assuming office in September 2021. Under his direction, Zambia Sugar has initiated measures that significantly raised health and safety standards within the company.

Da-silva praised Magwenzi, stating, “This esteemed award acknowledges your steadfast dedication to nurturing a culture of safety and well-being throughout your organization’s operations. Your forward-thinking strategies and resolute actions have not only improved the overall health and safety environment within the company but have also established a commendable standard for the entire industry.”

The ceremony also recognized other notable individuals, accomplished professionals, and prominent organizations for their contributions to advancing the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) sector.

Notable recipients of the CEO of the Year awards included Mr. Taiwo Ayodele Adeniyi of Vitafoam Plc, Engr. Ayodele Abioye of BUA Foods, Nachilala Nkombo of WWF Zambia, and Kayode Adeleke of RusselSmith, acknowledged across various categories such as Manufacturing, FMCG, ESG, and Oil Servicing.

Under the CEO Recognition category, Princess Taizir Ajala of Gordon Barrett, Hon. Olaonipekun Kazeem of Focad Global Concept, Engr. Lanre Eyinfunjowo of Dolland Resources, and Engr. Ajibola Ahmadu of Atmos Integrated Services were recognized.

The prestigious AfriSAFE Man of the Quinquennium award was bestowed upon Mr. Dapo Omolade, CEO of Hybrid Group, and Prof. Christopher Imumolen, President of JPTS, honoring their exceptional contributions to HSE causes over the years, among other notable nominees.

Moreover, the Industry Merit Award acknowledged professionals including Fyneray Mbata, Dr. Eugene O. Itua, Anthonia Beri, Cletus Onyemhese Agbakhamen, Engr. Okudor K. Emmanuel, and Hellen Mitole Cliffe for their significant and lasting impact within the industry.

Recognitions in the organizational category were also extended to entities like Finsbury Heinz Limited, First Aid Services (Nig.) Enterprise, Golden Africa Djibouti, NMS Infrastructure Limited, RusselSmith Nigeria Limited, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and Stanbic IBTC Holdings, among others.
