2024 AFRISAFE AWARDS: Celebrating Excellence In Safety – Full List Of Individual, Organization Winners

Day Two of the 2024 AfriSAFE Congress in Livingstone, headline sponsored by Zambia Sugar brought together safety professionals, advocates, and industry leaders for an unforgettable celebration at the AfriSAFE Dinner and Awards Ceremony.

Described by the president of AfriSAFE; Nthabiseng Mmusi as the “Oscars of Safety Professionals,” the event was a night of recognition for those who have shown exceptional dedication to the fields of workplace safety, environmental protection, and mental health advocacy across the continent.

HSENations presents the list of individuals who stood out in the world of African safety and earned remarkable recognition for their achievements, These nominees were shortlisted from over 11,000 entries spanning more than 30 African countries.

Individual Nominees and Winners

2024 AfriSAFE Mental Health and Wellness Advocate Award The award for Mental Health and Wellness Advocacy was presented to Pumulo Carlos Mutemwa for his tireless work in promoting mental health awareness and wellness initiatives in the workplace. Mutemwa stood out among a strong field of nominees, including George Mwabi, Barbara Nsokolo, Victoria Mupinde, and Munene Kamundi, who have also made significant strides in this critical area.

2024 AfriSAFE Excellence in Fire and Life Safety Award: Sipho Lungu

2024 AfriSAFE Excellence in Fire and Life Safety Award In the category of fire and life safety, Sipho Lungu took home the award, recognized for his leadership in advancing fire safety practices. Nominees in this category included Margaret Phiri, Sipho Lungu, and Moses Mutelemba, all of whom have demonstrated exceptional commitment to preventing fire-related incidents.

2024 AfriSAFE Lifetime Achievement Award: Jamie Cliffe

2024 AfriSAFE Lifetime Achievement Award This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to three trailblazers in the field of safety, who have devoted their careers to the advancement of safety practices. The esteemed winners are Jamie Cliffe, John Allan Zgambo, and Dr. Clever Mpoha, each of whom has left an indelible mark on the safety profession.

2024 AfriSAFE Best of Africans in Diaspora Award: Constance Ehiozee took home the Best of Africans in Diaspora Award, recognized for her contributions to safety and wellbeing in African communities abroad. Other nominees included Seun Taiwo, Nkandu Beltz, Chinonso Godwin Okoyeaniche, Christopher Babayemi, Taza Belinda Serenje, Edward Debrah, Charles and Yelesani Ngwira, who also made significant strides in their respective fields.

2024 AfriSAFE Outstanding Woman in Safety Award: Sharon Atieno was honored as the Outstanding Woman in Safety for her dedication to advancing women’s participation in safety and environmental sustainability.

A wide array of nominees, including Irene Kobusinge, Stella Mumoneka Mwale, Baritule Bema-Aromeh, Ukponmwan Ajiri-Oghene Angela, Phola Sixelesile Motlhabanare, Nancy Chifwesa Kaoma, Olayinka Dasola Alabi, Queendolyn Uwem Lawrence, Keletso Masire, Refiloe Thantsha, Serah Ibrahim, Mulonga Yamba, Sharon Atieno, Memory Mulenga Mbewe, Nafisat Adeniran, Lusa Mubu, Noxolo Msiya, Irene Mueni David and  Akpana Benedicta Ogbang, were also recognized for their impactful work.

2024 AfriSAFE Professional of the Year Award The Professional of the Year Award went to Ayodele Dare Adebola, whose exceptional contributions to safety and environmental practices have set him apart as a leader in the industry. The nominees in this category included; Habeenzu Malambo, Isaac Mutunga, Edwin Anyim, Christopher Mwansa, Femi Awosedo, Engr. 2024 AfriSAFE Journalist of the Year Award The prestigious Journalist of the Year Award was presented to Annie Zulu, whose impactful coverage of safety and health stories has contributed greatly to raising awareness of workplace safety issues in the media. Nominees included Sera Tamina, Tracy Bonareri Onchoke, and Nicholas Sibanda.

2024 AfriSAFE Shining Star of The Year Awards The Shining Star of the Year Awards recognized emerging leaders who are poised to drive safety initiatives forward across the continent. The winners in each region were:

  • East Africa: Isaac Adams
  • Southern Africa: Albert Sichivula
  • West Africa: Ahmed Musa Mohammed
  • East-Central Africa: Cosmas Anakwue

2024 AfriSAFE Impact Award The Impact Award celebrated individuals who have made significant contributions to creating safer and more sustainable environments. The recipients included Engr. Nsikak A. Ekam, Captain Haig Anyonyi, Deon Jacobs, and Alex Kasengo.

2024 AfriSAFE Professional Recognition Award The Professional Recognition Award recognized individuals who have demonstrated excellence in their work and commitment to safety and environmental protection. The winners included Samuel Ndahbros, Dr. Soji Olalokun, Mark Kunda, and Pilot Amy Kiiru.

2024 AfriSAFE Trailblazers Award The Trailblazers Award went to James Adenuga and Arthur Sinkala, who have shown exemplary leadership in the safety field, pushing boundaries and inspiring others in the process.

Celebrating Excellence in Safety The AfriSAFE Awards served as a remarkable reminder of the dedication and hard work that safety professionals across Africa contribute to building safer workplaces and communities. As the event concluded, the President of AfriSAFE emphasized that the organization’s mission goes beyond awards – it’s about fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and safety across borders, ensuring that Africa remains a beacon of progress in the global safety movement.

Dr. John Aondoaseer Jia of Wangz Energies and Safety Systems Ltd received the Individual Merit Award for his remarkable contributions to promoting safety practices.

The 2024 AfriSAFE Awards will be remembered as an inspiring evening that celebrated the unsung heroes of workplace safety, environmental protection, and mental health advocacy, and further cemented the importance of working together to create safer, more sustainable environments for all.

2024 AfriSAFE Food and Quality Safety Award
Golden Africa Djibouti was honored with the Food and Quality Safety Award for its exceptional standards in food safety and quality assurance. Other recognized organizations included Varun Beverages Zambia Limited and Zambeef Products Ltd, who have also demonstrated remarkable efforts in this field.

2024 AfriSAFE Best Fleet Safety, Health, and Sustainability Compliance Company of the Year
Olam Crown Flour Mill received the Best Fleet Safety, Health, and Sustainability Compliance Company of the Year Award for its outstanding adherence to safety protocols and sustainable practices in fleet management.

2024 AfriSAFE Mining Company of the Year
Lucara Botswana was awarded Mining Company of the Year for its dedication to workplace safety and sustainable mining operations, setting a benchmark for the industry.

2024 AfriSAFE Health and Safety Team of the Year
Africa Data Centres emerged as the winner in the Health and Safety Team of the Year category for its exceptional safety culture and teamwork. The other nominees included Soliton Telmec Limited, KEC International Limited, and IHS Zambia Limited.

2024 AfriSAFE Training Provider of the Year
Hybrid-HSE Limited was recognized as the Training Provider of the Year for its exemplary safety training programs that have significantly enhanced workplace safety standards across the continent.

2024 AfriSAFE Mental Health and Wellness Company of the Year
Phemo Wellness Centre was named the Mental Health and Wellness Company of the Year for its innovative and impactful approach to promoting mental well-being in the workplace. Other nominees included Lucy Grand Foundation, Defined Style Fitness, Lulu HIV Foundation, and Qodar Safety Consults.

2024 AfriSAFE Manufacturing Company of the Year
Zambian Breweries Plc. took home the Manufacturing Company of the Year Award for its commitment to operational safety and high-quality manufacturing processes. Honorees in this category also included Dangote Packaging Limited, CWAY Food and Beverages Nigeria Company Limited (Sagamu Plant), and Golden Africa Djibouti.

2024 AfriSAFE Bank of the Year
Zambia National Commercial Bank received the Bank of the Year Award for its innovative approach to integrating safety and sustainability into banking operations. Honorees included Absa Bank Zambia PLC and Stanbic IBTC, Nigeria.

2024 AfriSAFE Offshore Training Provider of the Year
Prime Atlantic Safety Services was awarded Offshore Training Provider of the Year for its exceptional contribution to safety training in offshore environments.

2024 AfriSAFE Construction Company of the Year
Stefanutti Stocks Zambia Construction Ltd won the Construction Company of the Year Award for its exemplary safety practices in construction. Other nominees included KEC International Ltd and Real Contractors Ltd.

2024 AfriSAFE CSR of the Year Award
Zambeef Products Limited was recognized for its outstanding corporate social responsibility initiatives that positively impact safety and sustainability. Other nominees included Lagos Free Zone Company, Absa Bank Zambia, and Essenspark Limited.

2024 AfriSAFE Government Agency of the Year
Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Nigeria, was awarded Government Agency of the Year for its commitment to safety and regulatory excellence. Other honorees included Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) and Workers Compensation Fund Control Board (WCFCB).

2024 AfriSAFE Fire Safety Company of the Year
KUO Fire Safety Limited was recognized for its leadership in fire safety innovation and service delivery.

2024 AfriSAFE Telecommunications Company of the Year
MTN Nigeria Communications Plc was named Telecommunications Company of the Year for its dedication to workplace safety and sustainable telecommunications practices.

2024 AfriSAFE ESG Companies of the Year

  • Southern Africa: Absa Bank Zambia PLC
  • East-Central Africa: KEC International Limited

These companies were recognized for their exemplary environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies.
