Lagos Safety Commission Warns Residents Against Fire Hazards, Unsafe Practices

The Lagos State Safety Commission has issued an urgent call to residents to prioritize safety and adopt preventive measures as the year-end approaches, particularly due to the ongoing extreme heat and dry weather conditions.

Speaking during a weekend briefing, the commission’s Director-General, Lanre Mojola, stressed the importance of vigilance, citing the health risks associated with the weather, including dehydration, high fever, blurred vision, and exhaustion. “Once there is life, there is hope for a better tomorrow. We must prioritize the safety of lives above all else,” Mojola said.

He specifically warned against hazardous practices such as smoking in public spaces and the improper storage of flammable substances like fuel in homes, shops, or stalls, which significantly increase the risk of fire outbreaks and fatalities.

Mojola also called on residents to support government efforts in creating safe homes, workplaces, and communities, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility in ensuring a secure environment.

Residents were encouraged to visit the commission’s official website, www.lasgsafetyreg.com, for comprehensive safety guidelines. According to Mojola, adhering to these measures is key to achieving a hazard-free Lagos for all.

The appeal comes as part of the state’s broader effort to raise awareness about safety during the festive season, a period marked by heightened activities that often lead to increased accidents.
