Safety and HSE  Personnel/Professionals are endued with preserving a safe workplace for employees. They must be able to assess risk in the workplace and develop and implement proactive measures that help prevent injuries and illnesses from happening in the first place. They must also be able to track, investigate, and manage safety incidents to identify approaches to prevent future occurrences. Safety managers need a definite system of record to be able to monitor and analyze data and generate reports.

What requirements are most important to Safety professionals when considering a work safety software solution?

Below are five important challenge a safety Professional must be on ground to solve or must have placed strict guidelines to solve at all time.

1. The use of mobile devices to perform operations.

Safety Professional must learnt to teach their employees on how to use mobile devices like laptops, iPhones and Android to perform online or offline function and this will make the work slower if the workers can’t use simple mobile devices .

Eg. The use of device for workforce to easily log and track incidents, access training documents and other resources, deal with escalations, audits, or approvals using any device whether online or offline?

Solution
A situation where a safety company may have workers who are not  mobile functional, provision of mobile device should be made, also training on how those mobile device can be use to make the job easier should done by professionals in the field.
Employee should be strictly taught on using the mobile device for what it’s given for and not out of the functiom of which it was given .

2; Daily Check up of routine operations and machines .

A lot of time I have seen safety company find themselves in haste to fix a certain solution due to inspection from regulatory agency and a lot of times most of these companies end up performing below standard requirement of the agency.

Solution

Daily or weekly check of routine and operations should be done to ensure everything is in check and on track .

Machine should be checked for servicing to avoid issues of sudden failure at anytime of usage .

3. Task designation 

Task designation is very important in safety Environment, as every employee have their strength of work level. A worker who is good with operating machine should not be placed on distribution of Personal Protective equipment.

Solution

The safety Professional in charge needs to study everyone in the team to know which activities A or B isgood at doing well. This will not only boost the operation performances but also the speed at which this operations is been performed.

 

4. Tracking out the root of accidents.

One of the major Challenges with Safety Profession is tracking out the cause of an accident. It is not just okay to treat the staff and care for them. Following up is very important. When the organization is not aware of the root cause of a certain accident then repetition of such situations will become normal .

Solution

A safety Professional must always be sensitive and at alert to situation that can cause accidents. In safety they said all Accidents are preventable but the Safety Personnel  must be aware of what can cause this, how  and ways it can be prevented. This does not only protect the staffs but also properties of the company.

5. Staff assessment

Every safety organization should have a folder which contains the essential of assessing their staff on risk management, ability to take immediate decision, ability to think fast even when under duress.

Safety Profession is very complicated and because of this, the company can not afford to take for granted the safety of their staffs or the company.

Solution

Company should help with providing means of reading to boost the morale of their staffs, it could be through inviting a highly grown HSE Professional, supervisor, manager etc, whichever way the company decides on,  someone who can speak with them and relate with them to put them through into doing the right thing and performing activities right at all time should be made available.
