The National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria has begun a nationwide strike despite COVID-19 crisis.

The commencement of the strike on Monday is sequel to the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum given to the federal government by the association.
Announcing the commencement of the industrial action in Abuja, the union president, Dr. Aliyu Sokomba, said the union had resolved to exempt doctors on the frontline of COVID-19 battle from the strike.

He disclosed that the union decided to exempt its members working in various coronavirus (COVID-19) isolation and treatment centres across the country.
Dr Sokomba, however, stated that exemption of the members attending to COVID-19 patients was for two weeks before they join the industrial action.
Meanwhile, HSEnations reports that Nigeria’s total confirmed cases of coronavirus have risen to sixteen thousand and eighty-five (16,085) with five thousand, two hundred and twenty (5,220) people discharged and four hundred and twenty (420) deaths recorded so far.
