Lagosians Adhere To Face Masks Order, Snub Social Distancing As Economy Re-opens

As Lagos residents embark on their normal daily activities, many of them wear seen wearing face masks but snubbing the much-clamored for social and physical distancing.

Recall President Muhammadu Buhari on 27 of April ordered the gradual easing of lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic in two states, Lagos and Ogun, and the federal capital territory, Abuja.

But since the announcement of the lockdown easing, the country’s Covid-19 case count has increased by nearly 50%.

In the same period, Africa’s most populous country has also recorded over 100 daily cases for more than two consecutive days, for the first time since the outbreak began. Already, the Nigerian Medical Association and Nigeria Healthcare Providers Association of Nigeria have warned of a likely increase in cases and deaths.

HSENations visited some locations within Alimosho (Igando/Ikotun axis) and to our greatest surprise, majority of Lagosians were seen adhering to the #MaskUpLagos initiative but snubbed social distancing.
