……Seals off defective building
Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC) has held another edition of its Safety Awareness Campaign, with a focus on Lagos Island.

The Commission engaged traders, commuters and residents at Tafawa Balewa Square, CMS, Tinubu Square, Nnamdi Azikwe Street, Oluwole Street, Tom-Jones Street during the sensitisation programme.
While addressing a crowd of residents, Director General of the Commission,
Lanre Mojola, who personally led the campaign, harped on the need to always be alert on practices that could compromise safety in homes and market places.

Mojola listed measures that could be taken to prevent incidents that may lead to loss of lives and properties, while also praising the residents for turning out for the sensitisation.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Wale Ahmed, who also joined the campaign, lent his voice to the theme of the programme, urging residents to report unsafe activities to the authorities.
The LSSC team halted the campaign at a construction site where various rules on construction safety were observed to have been violated. To prevent untoward event, the building was sealed immediately, while the Commission promised to investigate the
activities on the site.

” In recent time, there have been series of collapsed buildings across the state due to illegal development and use of substandard materials by developers.
The state government would not spare any owners of structures not complying with the state. We all can see that the building has too many hazards such as workers not wearing safety helmets and working from heights”, Mojola said
He, however, warned that any worker found working on a building sealed off by the agency would be prosecuted.
The DG however, appealed to the public, especially developers, to support the agency in achieving the policy thrust of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu government.

Also at the campaign included Commissioner for Home Affairs, Price Anofiu Elegushi, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Central Business District, Hon. Sola Giwa, and award-winning hip-hop artiste, Patoranking top government officials and several others.
