NCAA Takes Decisive Action to Ensure Aviation Fuel Safety in Nigeria

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), under the leadership of Director-General Musa Nuhu, has taken decisive action to address concerns about contaminated aviation fuel.

A committee has been established to conduct a comprehensive audit of aviation fuel suppliers’ facilities, from the source of the fuel to aircraft filling points.

This committee comprises members from various agencies, including NCAA, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and the Department of State Security (DSS).

The primary objective of this committee is to investigate the root causes of fuel contamination incidents and provide solutions and recommendations to enhance safety within Nigeria’s aviation industry.

The implementation of these recommendations will prioritize public safety and the security of air travel in Nigeria.

Director-General Musa Nuhu, represented by Ibrahim Bello Dambazau, emphasized the importance of this national assignment and urged committee members to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to prevent future incidents and elevate safety standards.

The terms of reference for the committee have been clearly defined, and members will conduct nationwide inspections to ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety requirements.

Nuhu reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority to the safety of aviation activities in the country, as directed by the presidency and the minister.

Collaboration with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMPDRA) has already yielded positive results, including the identification and suspension of non-licensed and expired-license fuel suppliers at airports. Heightened surveillance measures and the issuance of an All Operators Letter (AOL) further reinforce the commitment to ensuring strict compliance with approved fueling requirements.
